Line and Depth
This project was challenging, yet fun. I had a love/hate relationship with it. The aspects of this project that were challenging was how restricted I was. The purpose of the project was to create a better understanding of how to use line to create depth. The part of the project i struggled with was how we could only really use line. I wanted to use shape and i struggled with not being able to use it. The quadrant i struggled with the most was the right one, and the bottom one. In the right quadrant, I obviously wanted to use shape, but my teacher asked me about how i could use line to create the illusion of shape. When I experimented with that concept, as seen in the right quadrant, I wouldn't connect the lines so they wouldn't become shapes. I also used line on order to create shadow to make the object look more spherical and three dimensional. Even though I did struggle, i like this quadrant because it was the only one i did where it gave the illusion of the object coming towards you instead of going back in space, like i attempted to do in all the other quadrants.
I struggled with the lower quadrant because it was such a small section to work with and I still don't think I created the best illusion of depth. It definitely could have been pushed back in space more. Something I could have done was use deeper values or instead of using x's I cold have used curved lines to create more of an illusion. I was very pleased with the other two quadrants though. They both effectively had the effect of going back in space. They also had a similar concept because they both had a focal point where your eye would be led to.

Transformation: Organic to Inorganic
In this assignment we had to create 5 different panels showing a transformation from an organic shape to inorganic shapes. It is supposed to look like it's slowly morphing. I struggled with this assignment from the beginning because i was confused about the definition of organic and inorganic, so originally did the assignment wrong. Even though I did the assignment wrong, I only had to make some minor adjustments in order for it to be done correctly. I'm not sure if i liked this assignment only because I struggled with the assignment guidelines. Although I did struggle; I feel like I've learned a lot from this assignment. One skill I've learned, that I've struggled with in the past, would be how to used negative space more effectively.
Balancing Act
In this assignment we had to demonstrate our ability to show stability, dominance, individuality, and opposition visually. Going from left to right the pieces i made are supposed to show Individuality, dominance, opposition, and stability. The fifth image is showing dominance again and the last image is showing sketches I did in the brain storming process. I struggled with this project only because I feel like I did not understand some of the ideas or definitions of the words we had to represent visually. The word I found myself showing the best was dominance only because that's the one word i understood best. The words don't seem hard to define, but given the restrictions of the assignment, I struggled. We were only supposed to use four squares and one circle to show individuality, dominance, opposition, and stability.I could definitely do some adjustments in order to make the pieces stronger though, such as work on craft, but I am still pleased with how it came out because I know I tried and that they showed a basic understanding of the terms.
Nature and Shape
This assignment was challenging, but fun at the same time. Something I found challenging was that we had to take something from nature and completely transform it into something abstract. I struggle with assignments that deal with creating something abstract because it pushes me out of my comfort zone. What i tend to favor to draw is to draw from life. The first image is a photo copy of the objects I found in nature that I had to transform. I struggled with it because I felt restricted. I'm not sure why, but I did. I then turned the image over and looked only at the outline all the shapes made together and instead of looking at each individual shape, I looked at the shape all the shapes made as a whole and then started drawing from there. In the first abstraction i found myself creating what appeared to be some kind of creature. In the peer critique i got many different ideas of what it looked like. Some students said it looked like a butterfly or some type of flying bug, someone said a peacock, and some other say it looked like some kind of bird or creature. I thought it was pretty cool how so many people can interpret the abstraction so many different ways. The second abstraction I thought I would take a much more geometric take on the shapes. I really like how this turned out because of how much I played with line weight. It is also drastically different looking in relation to the first abstraction. For the last abstraction, I had to re work one of the abstractions I made and I chose to re work my second abstraction. I struggled with coming up with something, but in the end I just ended up cutting up the different triangles and playing with how to position them. In a way, I played Jenga with the different triangles. I feel very pleased with the way this assignment came out; although, there is always room for improvement.
Silk Screen Texture Book
This project was supposed to have us experiment with patterns and layering. Also to experiment with print screening. I enjoyed this project a lot because i had a lot of fun with it. The way we made these was that we would cut out shapes from black paper as well as getting pictures of black and white patterns. We then would cut the black and white image of the pattern in fun shapes. Then arrange them on a screen and then place the screen on top of it. The machine that we placed the cut outs and patterns on would shine a light on the patterns that would transfer the images to the silk screen. We made two larger ones and then three smaller ones. The paint we used was special printers paint. We would put the paint directly on the screen and then slide it across where the screen would fill with paint. Then we would place the screen down on the paper in the position that we wanted it. Then applied pressure on the screen to transfer the image to the paper. After we finished with printing multiple times and mess with layering, we chose interesting compositions that came out and made a little booklet. The only thing i found considerably complicated about this project was when the print wouldn't come out how we anticipated because of the paint being dry in the screen, but that could be easily fixed. I enjoyed how this project came out and enjoyed the process!
Pattern Saturation
The goal of this project was to make an interesting and compelling composition of pattern and shape. As well as showing layers and overlapping in the patterns on a 2D plane. We would create an organic shaped stencil and then trace it multiple times overlapping it creating lots of different kind of shapes. Then we would erase different lines till we come to 7-15 interesting shapes that we would draw patterns in. This project was definitely one of the projects that I enjoyed most because I had a lot of fun creating the different patterns. Although i don't typically like a lot of freedom on projects, this I didn't mind much for some reason. I did find it challenging to show different layers and values. This is one compositions that I am most pleased with how it turned out though.

Other Colors
Red: In advertising, red is used to compel people, to signal danger, but can also be the symbol of love, passion, happiness, and excitement.
Yellow: Yellow used to be used as an earthy color in art, but now is used to grab peoples' attention. Also in the Chinese Ming Dynasty, yellow symbolizes power.
White: White is seen as a perfect color, clean, and signifies new beginnings. It can also symbolize being distant or detached.
Blue: Is normally associated with baby boys. It is the one color that you will see the least naturally and blue can symbolize loyalty, trust, and peacefulness.
Brown: Symbolizes stability, hospitality, homy, and protection. UPS uses brown as their dominant color in their logo because brown is a trusting color.
Pink: Pink is seen as a lack of green, sometimes debated about whether or not it is a real color, and has a calming effect on people.
Purple: Can be a sign of higher self, sacred, fragile, spiritual, and royalty.

Branding Project
This assignment was tied into the logo designing assignment. The goal of this assignment was to get our logo out into the public or present ways it would be displayed on different products. I chose to try to get my logo and name out there by handing out my business card to friends in classes I was in. I also drew my logo on the walls on my dorm floor. In the dorm hall I live in, on each floor, the walls by the elevator are white boards. I decided to draw my logo by the elevator because then everyone would see it while waiting for the elevator. Then I decided to put my logo on a piece of artwork I make myself. I used a sticker and I feel like it would have looked better if it was more of a stamp than a sticker because then it wouldn't have he small white background or boarder. I enjoyed this assignment because I thought it was fun being able to publicize yourself and it felt cool giving people my business card because I've never had a business card before.
Cube Final
The point of this project was to also experiment with layers and being able to display all the principles of art we have learned through out the year. We took the packaging of an ordinary object and would photoshop different parts of the packaging into a different design displayed on the cube. The design of the cube is supposed to be intriguing and make you want to turn it and look at every side. I enjoyed this project because I feel like I learned how to use photoshop much better and it familiarized myself with the program more. I also enjoyed this project because it was digital and it was just fun to experiment around with. This was one of the first projects i've had like this and it was interesting to do. I am satisfied with the way it came out. I do think I could change a few things to make it flow better and connect the sides of the cube better. There is always room for improvement, but I am happy with how I did. The principles are displayed and there is a flow to the sides of the box, even though there could be way to improve it.
